Año escolar 2015-2016
Sean bienvenidos a la clase de español – C105
Español 2CP2, 4CP1, 3H y AP
BUENOS DIAS! Learning a language opens you up to an amazing world of new sounds, concepts, peoples and cultures. In our increasingly global society, the ability to understand and speak another language and appreciate cultural differences will open many doors and serve you well throughout your life.
Grading breakdown:
Tests/quizzes/presentations/projects: 60% of final grade
(Tests/Projects 40%, quizzes 20%)
Homework: 15% of final grade
**Participation: 25% of final grade – See rubric
*** In class assignments, small projects would be equal to a quiz grade.
Students are expected to be enthusiastic and committed participants in class. In language learning, **oral participation is essential**. It allows you to practice and reinforce new material and become a confident speaker and listener. Our classes will be conducted primarily in SPANISH and students are expected to speak SPANISH as much as possible. Excessive chatting in English, unreasonably long bathroom visits, mobile device use without explicit permission from me, or other class disruptions will **severely impact** your participation grade. A culture of respect, courtesy and kindness is demanded in this classroom. Preparedness is also extremely important. Students are expected to arrive in class prepared with books, notebooks/binders, homework materials, journals, writing instruments, etc. Any homework should be completed before the beginning of class and will be randomly checked.
Make-up policy:
Students who are absent are expected to **e-mail me** to request assignments they have missed. Make-up work (including homework, tests and quizzes) will be due on a reasonable date selected at my discretion. You are responsible for turning in missing work within a reasonable time frame. I will not chase you down for it, and if you fail to turn it in, you will not receive credit for the assignment. You are present on the day a test or quiz is announced, you will be expected to take the test/quiz on the day you return to school, unless you have made other arrangements with me.
Internet use and academic honesty:
The internet is a rich and valuable resource in language learning. Please keep in mind that complete honesty is expected of students at all times. Students who attempt to pass off as their own material copied, downloaded or paraphrased from the internet will receive a zero for that assignment and possibly be subject to further disciplinary measures. It is always quite obvious when language students try to pass off internet material as their own. “Internet material” includes translation programs, which make many contextual errors and are easy to spot.
Algo más: If you are having trouble with any of the material, please come see me right away. I am available most days before and after school and I am always happy to help. Don’t wait until more work piles up and you become even more lost.
Ojo:
Spanish Club – All are welcome. If you are interested in being part of this club, let me know. Meetings would be after school.
